It is important to note how people, especially those not from the Philippines, could go around a certain destination. In Cebu, there

are no trams, trains, or railway systems that other more progressive nations have. However, currently, an almost one kilometer subway has already been under construction to connect the South Coastal Road with the Sergio Osmeña Avenue in the North Reclamation Area.

There are various forms of public transportation in Cebu. Here is a list of the most common transportations in Cebu:

1. Jeepneys. Jeepneys are legendary for they are uniquely made from the Philippines. They are already considered a great contribution to the world culture. Jeepneys were born out from US Army surpluses that were used as a tool to carry passengers.
Fares vary depending on the distance. The minimum fare is P7.00 with an additional of P1 for an additional 1 kilometer ride. Students have a discount of a P0.50, while senior citizens have a 20 percent discount. Jeepneys are very much visible around the cities and even to the remote areas. Jeepneys can bring you from one city to the next. They also have corresponding numbers to indicate their certain routes.

2. Taxi/ Cabs. There are also quite numerous taxi cabs around the city. It is more convenient in the fact that it has no designated destinations, unlike jeepneys. You can simply hail a taxi to bring you to your destination. The current flag down rate in Cebu is at P30.The cost then raises to P2.50 as it runs every meter. Generally, the cabs are clean and cool with their air conditioners. They are also available any time of the day.

3. Tricycles. Tricycles are motorcycles with sidecars that are designed to carry five to nine people. On the sidecar, passengers may be up to five in numbers. Behind the driver, it can still accommodate two to four people. The rates vary. The fare is about five pesos. It increases to one peso after five kilometres. Tricycles are usually available in smaller towns, streets, or villages.

4. Trisikads. Trisikads are bicycles with sidecars. They may also load from two to four passengers. The fare is cheaper than other forms of transportation. Trisikads are mostly popular in the rural areas, and to places where you only travel a minimal distance.

5. Habal – Habal. These are motorcycles that are routed to high places, like going to Mountain View, Tops, Busay, and the like. They are also used in places that are narrow and hard to get into, such as places in Consolacion. They can load from two people to four people. The more loads, the more dangerous it is, most especially when the habal-habal traverses through highlands. It should be warned that most habal-habal drivers and passengers don’t use helmets. The fare is also a bit costly than the others. It ranges from P10 to P50.( * When going to Mountain View, Tops, or Busay, remember that it would only cost you P50.00 to avoid drivers who assemble themselves at JY Square from ripping you off )
