After the long hours and days of working, the whole team at work had planned for a break to unwind in a beach resort overnight. A place to hang out at night, singing Videoke while far from the busy life in the city, was what we had in mind. Beach resorts from the South had been popular, like Moalboal, but we had heard that a new beach resort from the Northern part of Cebu was equally great. It was located in Tabunok, Tabuelan, Cebu. The name of this paradise in the north is Durhan White Beach Resort.
We used a private van by one of our workmates to go there. We travelled from Mandaue City, Consolacion, Lilo-an, Compostela, Danao, Carmen, then to the Transcentral Highway that passed through Balamban, Asturias, and Tuburan. From the intersection, we went straight to Tabuelan, looking for the signage of Durhan White Beach Resort at the left side of the road.
We started moving from Mandaue City at 3 pm and reached our destination at around 6 pm. The sun had already set, and the light of the day already faded, but we felt such delight with the glimpse of what we saw- white sands, clean water, coconut trees, dirt-free surrounding…
It was calm. At that time, we were the only people who accommodated the place as customers. We lodged in a house that was just there in the beach resort. It was affordable, like P2,500, with 2 bedrooms on the ground floor, and a big room on the second floor. It was enough for all ten of us. It had a big kitchen as well where we cooked our fried bangus, and served our carbonara.
Outside the house we stayed at was a cottage. It was the place where we gathered to eat our very sumptuous meals. The sound of the beach was our music. It was relaxing.
There was a videoke place near the cottage. At night, we sang there with beer, and had carbonara and peanuts as “pulutan”. We also had our night photography. We were discovering some effects from the camera of our workmate. In addition, we also had fun doing night swimming. There were sufficient and bright lights at the shore, so that it would not be that creepy. We owned the place…and the night.
In the morning, we were welcomed by the breathtaking sunrise. We were strolling at the white seashore. We were swimming again, picture taking ( with the famous “jumping” stunt ), then eating.
All the time and money spent for that short ( but fun filled and satisfying ) break were all worth it.
